Unmasking ADHD

20240411-_MG_5225.jpg

We're so glad you're here.

ADHD'ers deserve to be understood.

Unmasking YYJ is, first and foremost, a love letter to our fellow ADHD’ers. We see you because we are you.

The world is not always kind to us and it can be so exhausting to navigate systems that aren’t created with our needs in mind. So many of us ADHD’ers face pressure to hide (or “mask”) our true selves in the world just to make it through.

Here’s how we see it: You are not broken. You are enough, and your brain is a beautiful, complex part of who you are. You deserve community, celebration, connection, rest, laughter, and support.

That’s where we come in.

Hi, we're Amelia & Ciara

We are therapists & proud ADHDers living and working on unceded lÉ™k̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ traditional territories in Victoria, B.C.

It is our passion to help folks from a trauma-informed, intersectional perspective, and we firmly believe in the power of healing in community.

Our work is rooted in supporting our fellow ADHDers to find a supportive community amongst the oppressive systems we’re forced to live in. We’re big believers in honouring the unique context of our lives and are big system-thinkers.

The truth is: ADHD is political.

The cultural story we are sold about ADHD is highly based on capitalistic & colonial values, where certain traits are prized and others are pathologized.

It’s not your fault that you are struggling in a system that does not accommodate you.

We are here to help you find the ways to navigate these systems that actually work for your unique needs. To offer you a space to unmask and embrace your authentic self.

Here’s how you can work with us:

"Unmasking requires we question society’s most deeply cherished values, and notice where there are gaps between what we’ve been told we should be, and how we’d actually like to live… unmasking demands that we look back on our past selves with a spirit of grace, gradually learning to see that the sides of ourselves that we were told were too loud, too stilted, too weird, or too much are actually completely fine, even wonderful, and absolutely deserving of love."
